The last day of summer

The Last day of Summer

The last day, school starts tomorrow, my children will leave summer behind with sorrow.
Running through the fields in the long grass, My daughter, she stumbled and tripped cutting her leg on some glass.
My little girl cried, mummy, bandaged her leg, and sighed.
'You will survive its only a small cut, it's our last day out, you will both come out with me I have no doubt.

The sun still warm, the last of the summer rays. Kinder enjoying these last August days.
Children screaming, with delight, climbing high, harnesses, and helmets at the ready.
Hanging on zip wires, feeling like they can fly.

The barefoot walk, little feet strolling through the mud, the murky water, the jagged stones, and straw.
Cleaning our feet with a water hose and wet wipes, while sitting on the floor.

Riding the steam train, the scenery so beautiful.
We pass a lake with a bridge, woodland, and a cabin.
Autumn is evident, with the slight browning of the leaves.
Summer almost gone, signs of Autumn never deceives.

All too soon, dusk befalls.
The day is over, the holidays ended.
The children tired, there is no time left to roam.
Oh what a busy last day we had, but we are glad to go home.
Little faces, happy as can be.
Both in need of a bath after tea.
The last day of summer, oh what a joy.
Tomorrow is school for this girl and boy.
